Areas for the valves and the joints come from ISO 12241:2022 Annex A.2.3, Table A.3 at DN32. The pump casing is scaled from the frame against the same pipe. Both states are solved at the same load and the same ambient, to VDI 2055-1:2025 and ISO 12241:2022.

Two facings

Which outer face this line takes.

Both are the same module and the same thickness. What differs is what the outside has to survive.

PTFE

The chemically resistant face and lining. It holds up to acids and alkalis, takes mechanical knocks better, and the surface wipes clean. This is the one for a line that gets washed down with caustic.

Silicone

The utilities face. It suits circuits with no caustic washdown, where the module has to stay clean and dry rather than survive chemistry.

How the choice is made

By the environment and the cleaning regime, not by price. Ask what gets sprayed on the plant and how often, then pick the face that survives it.

What temperature is a feedwater line?

The figures here are solved at 100 °C, the temperature taken for this line. Feedwater sits between the deaerator and the boiler, and the exact figure follows the plant.

How much heat does a bare feedwater set lose?

The set modelled here is 19 items over 3.7 m² of hot surface. Bare it sheds 4.7 kW. With 50 mm of removable insulation it sheds 217 W, which is 95.4 per cent less.

Can a feed pump be insulated?

The casing, yes. The motor, no. A module over the casing covers the surface that holds feedwater at line temperature. Covering the motor traps its own losses and cooks the windings, so it stays in open air along with the nameplate and the terminal box.

What does insulating a feedwater set save in a year?

Should the outer facing be PTFE or silicone?
