What stays outside feedwater pump insulation?

Insulate the confirmed hot hydraulic surfaces, not the complete motor-and-pump silhouette. The motor, cooling path and service openings need their own review.

Start with the hydraulic section

Hot casing, not motor area

A vertical pump can have a hot head, sleeve and base beneath a separate motor. The Grundfos CR manual identifies these hydraulic surfaces and requires cooling air at the motor fan. This is a construction example, not proof that the rendered pump is a Grundfos CR. CR installation instructions, sections 6 and 6.4.

Keep the evidence with each surface

In this study, record the covered casing and exposed hot connections separately. Do not add the motor silhouette to the hot-water area. A warm motor may lose heat from electrical operation, which is not automatically a recoverable feedwater loss.

Access

Draw the exclusions before sizing the module

Cooling and inspection

Mark the fan intake, outlet, electrical box and cable entries on the coverage drawing. Keep manufacturer-required cooling paths clear. Record seal inspection and drain access. A rendered view cannot establish the required clearance, motor rating or approved insulation boundary.

Coupling and removal

Keep guards in place. Show how each removable section opens without interfering with guards, wiring or maintenance access. Check the space needed to withdraw components against the exact service manual. Do not copy a clearance from another pump family.

Count only the hardware that exists

Flanges and tie rods

Where present, list flange bolt heads, nuts, exposed shanks and tie rods separately. Record quantity, exposed length, temperature and coverage. Avoid counting a shank hidden inside a flange as an exposed surface. Do not add a second full bolt allowance to geometry that already includes it.

Before accepting the calculation

Compare the coverage drawing with the area entered on the parent page. Its current pump area is an image-based estimate, not an exact-model CAD measurement. Retain that uncertainty until a dimensional source replaces it. An area estimate cannot approve a module for manufacture.

Should the motor be included in feedwater heat-loss area?

No. Keep the motor separate from the hydraulic hot boundary. Confirm its cooling and access requirements using the exact pump and motor instructions.

Does the rendered pump establish installation clearances?

No. The render supports visual planning, not model identification or clearance approval. Use the nameplate, dimensional drawing and current manufacturer instructions.
