Insulation systems — how the material actually arrives on site

The same stone wool performs identically in a wired mat, a pipe section or a removable cover — what differs is fit, installation speed, and whether it SURVIVES maintenance. That last property decides more lifetime heat loss than any λ value.

FAQ

Questions on this topic

What insulation system should I use on valves and flanges?
Removable covers — engineered fabric covers with an insulation core, made to the component's geometry, closed with snap buttons. Fixed lagging on serviced components gets destroyed at the first maintenance; ASTM C1695 governs the engineered category.
What is the cheapest way to insulate long pipe runs?
Pre-formed pipe sections (glass or stone wool) on straight runs, wired mat + metal cladding on large diameters. Removable covers then handle the valves, flanges and strainers the sections dead-end at.
Are insulation bags the same as removable covers?
No. Bags are loose-filled pillows wired on — approximate fit, no engineered closure, usually single-use. Engineered covers are patterned to the component, snap-closed, and survive repeated removal. For anything opened more than once the cover wins on lifecycle cost.
