Boiling-water reactor (BWR)

A boiling-water reactor generates steam directly inside the reactor vessel, which then drives the turbine — a simpler single-loop design than a pressurized-water reactor.

Frequently asked questions

How is a BWR different from a PWR?

A BWR boils water in the reactor core itself (one loop); a PWR keeps the core water pressurized and boils a separate loop in a steam generator.
